Blackle: Environment-Friendly Search Engine

|

Awareness of the need to be more vigilant about the effects of human actions to nature has been growing. Late as it already is, people are now findings ways to reverse the effects or hope to get alternative solutions to help avoid or minimize these casualties. Then comes Blackle.com.

Heap Media developed Blackle as an answer to a theory that a black version of Google will save energy.

There's actually nothing special to it except that it's black. It still is powered by Google and you can expect it to search as Google does. But the thing about it is that it does not include customized or advanced searches, not as user-friendly as it is said to be environment-friendly.

Honestly, I don't really get how it can save energy. But according to Blackle/Heap Media, since the site is predominantly black, it then goes to say that it saves energy as energy consumed depends on the monitor display and those that have a bright display are generally consuming more energy as compared to those that are darker. if you didn't get it, just think: Black display = less light, less light = less energy needed, less energy needed = less energy consumed, less energy consumed = more environment-friendly.

Though this can obviously rage skepticism to many, it kinda has logic in it. May it be true or not, there's no harm in trying. Anyway, there's nothing to lose. If you're already a Google user then there are little adjustments you'll need to do.
I guess, if what Blackle says is true, then I'll need to change my blog to join the wagon.
